The local people living there are called Newars. The entire Shivapuri area is a protected area that is home to endangered bird and animal species, including rare species such as leopards, jungle cats and Himalayan Black Bears. Hikers can also see a large variety of mushroom species, approximately127 bird species and 102 different species of butterflies
